Course Description

This 2-year part time programme (5M4339) responds to the growing demand in our community for skilled care workers. The programme facilitates learners to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary for a career in this field of work. This qualification enables graduates to work in nursing homes, day care centres, and residential homes or as agency care workers within the community.

Year 1:  | Care Support | Care of the Older Person | Infection Prevention & Control  | Care Skills

Year 2: Safety & Health at Work | Communications | Work Experience | Understanding Special Needs

Progression

On successful completion of this programme, learners can apply to third-level institutions under the Higher Education Links Scheme or as a mature learner.

Fee

€50 exam fee for year 1.  

There is no fee for year 2.

cAREER OPTIONS

Successful graduates will be able to obtain employment as healthcare workers in hospitals, nursing homes, community day services and as home-help support.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate or QQI Level 4, equivalent standard of education. All applicants are subject to an online assessment and Garda Vetting.
