Nursing Studies (QQI Level 5)

This full-time one-year programme aims to provide the student with the necessary knowledge and skills to progress onto a nursing degree course within higher education in Ireland or the UK. Successful students can apply for degree courses in Ireland and the UK.
It can also provide students with the necessary preparation for a career as a Healthcare Assistant in hospitals and / or nursing homes.

Career opportunities:
The successful completion of the QQI Level 5 5M4349 award in Nursing Studies will enable applicants to work under supervision in a variety of hospital and other healthcare settings and or to progress to further and or higher education and training. Graduates can progress to employment as support workers, healthcare assistants in public or private sector nursing homes, hospitals, agencies and community care facilities. In addition, graduates may apply through CAO to a range of higher certificate and degree programmes to both Universities and Institutes of Technology.

Leaving Certificate or QQI Level 4, or equivalent standard of education. All applicants are subject to an interview and an online assessment. Garda Vetting is also required.

€50 QQI Level 5 Certification Fee – Medical Card holders or those in receipt of a Social Welfare payment are exempt from this Certification Fee.

VTOS: If you are over 21 years of age, are unemployed and have been getting certain social welfare payments for at least 6 months you can apply for the Vocational Training and Opportunities Scheme (VTOS). Successful applicants can receive a VTOS payment for the duration of the course, instead of their social welfare payment. Small meal and travel allowances may also apply
